Project Leaders

Jon Caris
Jon Caris is the GIS Specialist at Smith College and director of the Spatial Analysis Lab. He studies how decisions made in the political economy manifest themselves upon the landscape. He is particularly interested in visualizing partitioned, regulated space that unintentionally marginalizes individuals and communities. Jon is also tinkering with kite, balloon, and small-unmanned aerial vehicles (sUAV) platforms to capture aerial imagery for a variety of mapping and analysis projects. He is also learning how to ride a unicycle.
Jeffrey Moro
Jeffrey Moro is the Senior Post-Baccalaureate Resident in Digital Humanities with 5CollDH. He has led workshops in digital history, pedagogy, and project management for students in the Five Colleges working on digital projects. He also runs a new media gallery series, titled “E.LIT / NET.ART,” that introduces students to electronic literature, digital animation, and interactive software art.
Eric Poehler

Eric Poehler is Assistant Professor of Classics at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst. His research interests include Greek and Roman Archaeology and archaeological theory and method. He is the co-director of the Pompeii Quadriporticus Project, an archaeological investigation of one of the largest monumental structures in Pompeii, in which he employs non-invasive methodologies and cutting-edge research technologies, including experiments with UAVs.
